I: Do you prefer cut or uncut?

A: Cut definitely! (She laughs) As tight as possible. I don’t want there to be any skin movement at all.

I: Can you explain why?

A: Well… I actually have quite a lot of thoughts about this… But basically I happen to find it incredibly sexy.

I: Would you be prepared to share some of those thoughts with us?

A: Hmmm… Ultimately I think it’s the embodiment of female sexual control of men. It’s one of the reasons I don’t believe in “the patriarchy.” We live in a society where female genitals are protected from cutting by law, but any mother can get her son cut. Of course I prefer it when they’re cut as adults at the request of a female partner. I like them being able to give consent, and I like them being aware of exactly what they’ve lost. Of course when they’re cut at birth you’re kind of torturing them with the unknowable. And that can be a lot of fun too! (She laughs)

I: Do you think it affects male sexual enjoyment?

A: (She pauses). Well, I think it’s a double-edged sword. I mean, on the one hand I do think it lessens physical sexual sensation, but on the other, reminding a man of what he’s lost or sacrificed for the pleasure of women whilst they’re in a state of arousal, can be incredibly erotic … And y’know you can really use it to take them to new heights of submissive pleasure that otherwise they couldn’t get to. As I say to my friends, “the only good thing about an uncut cock, is persuading it to get cut!” (She laughs)

Sarah G: I grew up in a house where all the males had been circumcised. My Husband is also circumcised I have a strong preference for the procedure, i think that it is both more hygienic and more attractive. Unfortunately for my husband and I we are yet to conceive a boy. IF we do (fingers crossed for #3) we will surely have him circumcised.
Amelia: @Sarah G I grew up in a similar situation. My husband and I made the decision that if we had a boy we would get him circumcised, then a few weeks before the only doctor within a few hundred miles botched one of our friends boys circumcision and required significant medical intervention. We then decided against the procedure in the current situation. As our son grows older we hope that he will make the choice to become circumcised as he has had several infections already (he is 4) despite us making the daily best effort to keep him hygienic.
Sarah G: @Amelia that is unfortunate. I could only imagine how traumatic that would be for the child’s parents. Doing what is right for their child and it goes bad.
Jacqueline: I never saw a circumcised penis until I was in my 20’s. Growing up in Eastern Europe it was not a thing. It was only when I traveled to learn English in my 20’s that I discovered circumcision for the first time. I have been very sexually active my entire life. Being exposed to my first circumcised penis was a total shock to me, I did not know what was wrong and I did not know what to do. At that point I had been with “high 10s of partners” and I thought I was sexually confident. Those first few times with circumcised guys really did suck. However I met a more caring guy and we had a proper relationship where we learn each others bodies. Oh Boy was it an enlightenment to my sexuality. It was like I rediscovered myself. Orgasms became easier, my partner could last a reasonable time and my self confidence and esteem blossomed. Now that we just had our first boy it was a no brainier, he would of course be circumcised. I want him to provide the same level of sexual satisfaction to his partners that I have with his father. There is no debate in my mind that it is the right choice both hygienically, cosmetically and for the future sexual enjoyment of their partner.

Jacqueline: @Sarah G guessing at that stage I probably had more than 80 sexual partners.
Debs: I have never been with a circumcised man, However I look on with envy, I find them so much more attractive
Amelia: @Debs I feel for you. I know a girl who refused to have unprotected sex or marry her partner unless he got circumcised. She did not want to increase her chances of getting cervical cancer. At the time i felt that was a pretty hard line to follow, now 10 years later he can’t stop talking about how much of an improvement it is every time he gets mildly intoxicated at events. ALWAYS talks about the improvements. It is a rather surreal situation.
Sarah G: @Amelia one of my girlfriends circumcised her husband with some kit that they bought over the Internet from Korea. I can’t even imagine doing such a thing without proper medical supervision.
Debs: @Sarah G argh… that does not sound great. Have they talked about the results?
Amelia: @Sarah G WTF.. self circumcision sounds like some abstract S&M fetish
Jacqueline: I hear that people do similar in Eastern Europe now..
Yoo: In Korea circumcision is popular. Many Korean women prefer it if their partners are circumcised. It is very common for adult males to get circumcised.
Lexy: @Yoo did you circumcise your son?
Yoo: @Lexy we do not have a son yet. However my American husband wants our son to be circumcised at birth if we have one. I think it is the right move.
Debs: Maybe I should send my Husband to Korea and have him circumcised. ‘surprise, your going to the urologist’.. I know he would not appreciate that at all. He’s extremely sensitive about even the mention of the procedure even though his best mate was circumcised as an adult and rates the end result highly.
Yoo: @Debs you just need to keep secretly seeding the idea. Mention positive articles, show the WHO studies that show women prefer it, and men enjoy sex more afterwards. Eventually he will start thinking that it is his idea. Alternatively you could just stop having sex with him and then if he wants to have sex he has to get circumcised.
Jez: I grew up in Canada where circumcision was not unpopular, all my partners had been circumcised but I am now with an uncircumcised husband. I miss the days of easy orgasms, but you can’t fight who you fall in love with.
Sarah G: @Jez tough call. I would find that particularly hard because my preference is so strong
Jez: I have managed to get him to agree that we circumcise our boy due in a few weeks. He was very tough to convince and I may have left him with some self confidence issues for which I am truly sorry. Sometimes the truth hurts, even though I feel bad.
Talia: I am from Ukraine, I am a licensed doctor in both the Ukraine and in Washington State. It is interesting to me this discussion. During my medical degree it was very rarely discussed such a concept of circumcision. I think it may have been mentioned only a handful of times. However when I went to a hospital for my on-job training my first patients all came from Jewish communities, it was the first time I had actually seen a circumcised penis outside of text books. It did not really interest me at the time. It was only when I could not find a job after my placements ended that I decided to immigrate to the US. I went through med school to become a paediatrician. Reading the material the benefits far out way any risk factors from a health perspective. From a sexual perspective my preference is firmly in the circumcise camp now after only having two circumcised partners vs 10 uncircumcised.
Jez: @Talia I am in Washington state, do you circumcise boys?
Talia: @Jez, yes I use the plastibel which if properly trained on is one of the least risky for infant circumcision.
Sarah G: @Talia how many circumcisions do you do?
Talia: @Sarah G several per week although it is not my primary role, I prefer that they are done in the hospital whereas I am a private clinic.
Ayen: Here in Spain circumcision is only popular in Jewish or Muslim communities. I have only been with one circumcised man. He was jewish and horrible in bed, it was so uncomfortable to have sex with him. We did not even think about circumcision for our two boys. However now that one is 8 he may need to be circumcised as he has repeat infections and other problems related to the foreskin. It makes him very sad (the problems). We have been told to wait until he hits puberty before we do anything just in case.
Talia: @Ayen that advice may not be suitable, without knowing your child’s specific situation I would recommend a second opinion, if the infections are bad then it could cause other long term problems.
Ayen: @Talia they have prescribed antibiotics and we have a special cleaning routine for the infections. For the tightness he should “Grow out of it”.
Talia: @Ayen, it is possible although not very common in the patients that I have seen from birth that have had similar problems with being uncircumcised.
Sarah G: @Ayen just get your son circumcised he will be pleased with the results even if only from a pain and discomfort perspective.
Kelly-Anne: I am from Illinois and I have only ever seen one uncircumcised penis in the wild at a male strip show. The foreskin was so long it hung off the end of his penis by about 3 inches. It was a massive turn off for all the women in the audience. My view is CIRCUMCISE ALL THE BOYS. I only have girls but if that ever changes my husband and I will be first in line to get him circumcised.

I’ve always had a particular fondness of mothers who have circumcised their male children. Whatever their motivation for circumcising, they all share in the basic fact that they are moms of circumcised boys. If their boys were circumcised as infants, they will have gone through the aftercare of circumcision, the careful cleaning and applying vaseline on the exposed glans; for that, I am most grateful. And most will have gone through the trepidation, followed by the amazement of what circumcision entails, and ultimately feel the pride and happiness of knowing they are mothers of circumcised sons.

And what a bonding experience! When he is old enough to realize what he has lost forever, he will deeply love his mother for doing this to him. How could he not?

Removing the foreskin leaves behind a scar.

Sometimes it is nearly invisible, other times there is a sharp contrast as one kind of skin ends and the other one begins, while some African procedures ought to leave more significant scarring. And there is nearly any variation in between.

The final look certainly depends on the placement, the shape, the width, the thickness and the color of the scar.

Do you attribute any significance or special meaning to your circumcision scar?

Definitely. My circumcision was at the request of my girlfriend (now wife) as part of her agreeing to marry me so now she always refers to my scar as the wedding ring I can never take off. I love that. I love that it’s a permanent reminder of my devotion and what I gave up to make myself the husband she wanted.
